Santa Claus is coming to town!
“Nobody’s expecting the Macy’s Day parade, but it’s going to be pretty spectacular for Ingleside,” predicts Peter Huffey, organizer of the village’s upcoming Santa Claus Parade this Saturday, Dec. 4th.
The first annual Santa Claus Parade precedes a Tree Lighting Ceremony at Memorial Square on Saturday, Dec. 4th.
“There’s never been a Santa Claus parade in Ingleside before,” Huffey happily points out. “This is a first ever.”
Thirty-seven floats are so far signed up to take part, all from local businesses in the area, says Huffey, adding the procession includes a couple of floats from the recent Cornwall parade: Home Hardware and — soon expanding their business into Ingleside — Emard Lumber.
The parade begins 6 p.m. at M&L Supply on Wales Drive and continues west along Santa Cruz Drive to Ault Drive where it will travel north to Hickory Street, followed by Farran Drive to Maple St and ending at Memorial Square (behind the plaza area).
Following the parade, the community will come together for the official tree-lighting ceremony at Memorial Square, where volunteers have decorated the square for the Christmas and holiday season. South Stormont Mayor Bryan McGillis and other council members will preside over the flipping of the switch.
Of course, Santa is the star of the parade, set to ride aboard a sleigh on a hay wagon. After the procession, the Jolly Old Elf will briefly end up at Memorial Square before heading to the nearby Seniors’ Centre to host children and hand out small gifts, says Huffey.
And in the spirit of Christmas, the firefighters of Station 2, Ingleside, will collect non-perishable food items along the route for the Ingleside House of Lazaus — so be sure to bring food items to donate.
